To our nearly 3,000 app users– we’ve heard your comments and feedback and we’ve been working for many months to bring you an updated and greatly improved version of the Customer Fields app! If you’re new around here, Customer Fields is an app that allows you to create custom registration forms on Shopify.
This has been a part of a bigger move going on behind the scenes here at Helium, moving on from agency work to focus solely on our apps. At long last, we have some details for you about what is coming down the line for Customer Fields, as well as some tentative launch dates for these new features.
This update is primarily focused on improving the form building experience. We’ve added lots of new features to give you more control, while also making the app easier to use. We went back to the drawing board (literally) and the result is a simpler, cleaner UI that allows you to do more with less friction.
First of all, we built the new version of the app using Polaris to provide a user experience that is more consistent with the look and feel of the Shopify platform. There’s a new drag-and-drop tool in the app that makes form editing a breeze, and we’ve added some features for power users including a CSV upload for field options. You’ll also be able to preview your forms right in the app - even before installing any app code on a theme.
Over 10 new field types have been added to give you more control over the form layout and the types of data you can collect from customers. We’ve also simplified the interface for existing field types with listed options (ie: radio buttons and dropdowns). You can now upload a .csv with options, sort, and reorder.
Validation rules allow you to easily limit the number of characters for a field, force field values to match a specific regex, and much more! For example, require a user to be 18 years or older to register for an account.
With form steps, you can create a multi-step form instead of showing all form fields at once. This is especially helpful if you have a large number of fields and you don’t want to overwhelm your customers with too many questions.
We’ve created options for form templates which are pre-built, commonly used form layouts. Templates are intended to save you a significant amount of time and stress since you no longer need to build a form from scratch.
Rules are arguably one the most powerful new features that we’re adding to Customer Fields, and we are thrilled to see what you come up with! You can use rules to automatically trigger certain actions based on the conditions you specify. Here are some of the most commonly requested actions that will be available upon release:
Last but certainly not least, we’ve built in support for creating multiple forms. This opens up an entirely new way to use the Customer Fields app since you’ll be able to install multiple forms on the same theme. You can even install forms directly onto ‘Pages’ - entirely separate from your store’s standard registration page.
We’re optimistic that the new version of Customer Fields will be available to merchants by late November 2019. Our product team is working hard to fine-tune this new version to ensure that you get the best experience possible, and we’re confident that you’ll love what we’ve come up with :)
After this initial rollout we plan on releasing even more exciting new features, including Account Approval and reCAPTCHA. These features are expected to be available in the early part of 2020. More details to come!
